Our Story

Located in the heart of Frenchtown The Alcan has been a staple in the community for almost 100 years!

The Alcan Bar and Grille was established as the Frenchtown Beer Parlor in 1934, originally built by William Lucier Sr, it has exchanged a few owners and a few names, ultimately in 1995 Tom Porter purchased the bar.

Tom relocated from Lewistown Montana and has a strong history in the timber industry. When Tom purchased the Alcan he saw an opportunity to own the first bar in Frenchtown and he was familiar with Frenchtown as the Mill was still running. Over the years Tom has made many improvements, still keeping the home town feeling of the original Log Cabin Bar.

The interior has been completely re-done many times over the years to keep up with the changing needs of Frenchtown. Though the original bar top is still utilized, showing off all the local brands of ranchers, old and new across it.

With attractions including gaming, live poker on Friday’s, local bands, liquor store, karaoke, microbrews on tap, great food, great drinks and entertainment at an affordable price you can find everything you want in the Alcan.

Stop into the Alcan next time you’re in town and meet the locals, have some food and say hi to Tom and his wife Wanna. At the Alcan, it’s where your neighbors hang out.
